HEDC, workforce agency to hold major virtual job fair

HARLINGEN — The city’s economic agency is teaming up with Cameron Workforce Solutions to stage a major virtual job fair sometime this spring.

The date and venue have not been finalized, but Selene Guerrero, marketing manager for the Harlingen Economic Development Corp., told the agency’s board Wednesday the event’s timing and venue are being negotiated.

“Last year we were planning for April with Workforce Solutions Cameron, we were sponsoring the event,” Guerrero said. “But of course because of COVID, we had to postpone. We have recently been in discussions again and we’re planning for an April virtual job fair.”

Guerrero said later in an email following the meeting that more details about the job fair would be forthcoming within the next week or so.

“We’re hoping for at least 30 different employers,” Guerrero told the board. “This is going to be a general job fair. Their past events have done very well virtually, they’ve had about 400 job seekers for one of the bigger events they had in November, so we’re hoping we have the same kind of success.”

Guerrero said HEDC and Cameron Workforce Solutions will announce the venue and date for the fair once those details are firmed up in further negotiations.
