Bert Ogden Dealership in Harlingen Receives Development Funds
Harlingen, Texas – January 26, 2015 – Harlingen Economic Development Corporation, Inc. Board President, Mr. Bob Dunkin, presented Bert Ogden owners Bob and Janet Vackar with a development incentive check in the amount of $200,000 on Friday, January 23, 2015. The money was presented to the Vackars as part of an agreement between the HEDC and Bert Ogden for the construction of two new auto dealerships in Harlingen. The terms of the agreement included retention of up to seventy jobs, creation of new jobs, and development of infrastructure facilities and equipment at its new location on I-2 (US 83) and Altas Palmas Road.
“Moving from downtown Harlingen to the expressway has been a great move for us. We are looking to double and possibly triple our sales once the new dealerships are all in place. It’s all about exposure and this site Harlingen is the perfect fit for us,” said Mr. Vackar. In addition to the new Hyundai and Kia dealerships as specified in the agreement, Bert Ogden has also opened a Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram dealership, sales and service center at the same autoplex. HEDC President Bob Dunkin was also pleased with the new facilities. “There was over $3 million in buildings and infrastructure invested into this site by Bert Ogden Motors. This is testament to the business growth and investment that has transpired in Harlingen over the last 3 years.”
The development agreement also specified that the dealership would maintain the facilities and retain the new and created jobs for a minimum of five years. Also, the salaries and benefits of the employees would remain at the minimum agreed upon levels. Mr. Vackar also mentioned that Harlingen was a great central location where he could find the people to fill those new positions created. “The University of Texas at Brownsville and Texas State Technical College have both provided qualified business and technical staff to be able to provide excellent quality and service to our customers.”
