HARLINGEN, TEXAS (Jan. 30, 2020) – Today the Harlingen Economic Development Corporation presented $100,000 to the TSTC Foundation.
The TSTC Foundation acts as a support system for students in need. The foundation ensures that those facing hardship can continue with their education.
The money awarded to the Foundation will benefit Texas State Technical College students residing in Harlingen or the Harlingen Consolidated Independent School District boundaries.
“Today, we are making a presentation for $100,000 to the TSTC Foundation and helping students get past that goal line and pushing them to score and to succeed,” Raudel Garza, Harlingen EDC CEO & manager, said.
Initially, the Harlingen EDC set aside $75,000 for this program but after some consideration from the Harlingen EDC board, the amount was increased to $100,000.
Other criteria include:
- Enrolled full-time (12 or more credit hours), or part-time (3-11 credit hours)
- Enrolled in any TSTC program
- Must have a minimum 2.0 GPA and be in good standing
- Traditional and non-traditional students
- Must be in their final three semesters of study
TSTC Enrollment Services will select students who are in need of assistance. Once students are found eligible, they can use the award money towards tuition, materials, uniforms, tolls, testing fees, and TSTC campus housing.
“The Harlingen EDC has been a constant supporter of TSTC and this strong collaboration has a tremendous impact on the economic growth of our region,” said Cledia Hernandez, TSTC-Harlingen Provost.
“We are honored that Harlingen EDC continues to partner with us and believes in us to place more Texans in great paying jobs.”
