Flood Preparation for Small Business and Residents

HARLINGEN, TEXAS (July 24, 2020) – Atlantic Hurricane Season begins in June of every year and runs through November. During this time, we can expect variations of hurricanes, tropical storms, and depressions and it can be one big soggy problem for the region.

In the last two years, the Rio Grande Valley has experienced flooding of great proportions that accounted for damages that ranged up to $30 million – if not more, according to the NOAA. In short amounts of time, the rain accumulated to more than 15-inches regionally.

Streets flooded, thousands of homes destroyed, and businesses incurred significant damages – some businesses and residents were able to recover expenses through federal programs and local incentives offered by cities. The Harlingen EDC offered the Harlingen Helps grant for site improvement.
