Harlingen EDC Partners with TSTC Foundation to Help Students

Harlingen Economic Development Corporation is dedicated to ensuring that Harlingen has a strong, skilled workforce. We have partnered with the TSTC Foundation to help students who encounter financial barriers to finishing their certificate or degree.

Goal Line Assistance Program

The Goal Line Assistance Program was established in 2019 through a partnership between HEDC and the TSTC Foundation. This program provides grants for students at TSTC Harlingen campus who are in their final three semesters of study. Recipients must:

·       Reside within the City of Harlingen or the Harlingen Consolidated Independent School District

·       Be enrolled either Full-Time (12 credit hours or more) or Part-Time (3-11 credit hours)

·       Have a 2.0 or better GPA and be in good standing with the college.

·       Enrolled in any of TSTC’s programs.

·       Traditional and non-traditional students are eligible.

Recipients may receive up to $2500 from this program to be used for:

·       Tuition

·       Course materials

·       Uniforms

·       Tools

·       Testing fees

·       TSTC campus housing.

In May, Harlingen EDC contributed an additional $50,000 towards the Goal Line Assistance Program for students at TSTC’s Harlingen campus for the Spring Semester. TSTC awarded these funds to 32 students in 8 different fields of study. These students used the grants to pay for course materials, tools, and nursing testing fees.

Norwood Fedie Scholarship Fund

In June, Harlingen EDC volunteered in supporting the Harlingen Manufactures’ Association in presenting TSTC with a monetary contribution of $16,538.68. These funds will establish the Norwood Fedie Scholarship Fund. Named after long-time HMA chair, this fund will grant scholarships to students pursuing degrees or certificates in manufacture-related jobs and careers.

TSTC Student Success is Harlingen’s Success

Harlingen’s economic health is only as strong as the businesses in and around the city. These businesses are only as strong as their workforce. By helping students to finish their studies regardless of financial hardships, we are building the workforce of tomorrow.
