Success Story

VA Texas Valley Coastal Bend Health Care System (VCB)

The Department of Veterans Affairs recognized the need for an expansion of Veteran’s health care services in Deep South Texas and approved the formation of a new health care system encompassing twenty counties comprised of the Laredo, McAllen, Harlingen and Corpus Christi service areas.

Through the utilization of two complex inpatient/emergency department contracts, approximately 1,600 inpatient admissions and 1,200 ER visits are managed by local hospitals for the VA Texas Valley Coastal Bend Health Care System (VCB) at Harlingen.  Affiliated with the Regional Academic Health Center (RAHC), the system has an active ambulatory care program and serves as a teaching and training site for medical residents.  It is responsible for an enrollee population of over 40,000 veterans and 300,000 outpatient visits annually.
