Opened in April of 2018, the cold storage inspection facility at the Free Trade International Bridge at Los Indios “maintains the cold chain” during shipments to extend produce shelf life and offers refrigerated space to offload produce during secondary inspections, preventing exposure to the South Texas heat.

The cold storage inspection facility has three bays and two climate-controlled rooms and is directly accessible from FM 509 has close proximity to Interstate 69E, along with a 15-minute drive time to Harlingen Industrial Park. The facility also offers additional U.S. Department of Agriculture inspections for pests which could pose a danger to U.S. crops. The Valley International Cold Storage makes the Los Indios crossing more convenient and attractive to produce shippers who were previously using other crossings.
